Treyarch has revealed the PS5 ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are a real thing, confirming they'll be releasing next month thanks to the work of Iron Galaxy. In a very low-key announcement done on social media, the developer simply said: "It's official: the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation in July, courtesy of our partners at Iron Galaxy." No final release date was confirmed as part of the Treyarch announcement. The casual nature of the unveiling should probably give you a good indicator of what to expect from the two PS5 ports in July. In other words, I wouldn't expect these new versions to be anything other than what shipped on PS3, only now accessible in native PS5 versions. It doesn't sound like these are remasters or anything like that. Lending further weight to that is the fact Treyarch highlights these ports are for PlayStation only — there's no Xbox Series X|S version. This is because the two titles are already playable on the Xbox systems via backwards compatibility. As such, the PlayStation versions are probably going to match what's available there. Nevertheless, the first two Black Ops games represent some of the best Call of Duty experiences. Treyarch confirms both titles will come with their single player campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes. A quick trip down memory lane while you wait for Modern Warfare 4 or something to invest in over the summer months, these two Black Ops entries are considered FPS classics for a reason — they were stellar at the time. Iron Galaxy is the studio putting in the work to port the two games to PS5, having previously done the conversions for the likes of Diablo 3, Overwatch, Fallout 76, and many more.
